Where The World Is

There are a few things that have inspired me to do this blog, and after the weekend I just had, it's about time I started talking about a few of them.

Rough patches in one's life are to be expected. We all have them, after all. And for me, this weekend was one of them, at least in terms of my day job. The thing most people don't seem to understand about working in a burger joint is that it's really not so easy as society at large is lead to believe. And those are just the ordinary days.

There are also days when it feels as though I'm expected to not only have the whole world up my ass, but also be able to pull it out on command. This was one of those weekends.

The good news is that I know they're not entirely random. I even sort of know when to start expecting them more frequently. Sadly, though, this is that time of year to expecting them more.

One thing I've learned over the years is that it is possible to predict them, at least to an extent. And I could really see this one coming on the way to work Saturday.

How, you might ask?

There are cues that usually start showing up almost as soon as I leave my house. In this case, the first one was at the first stoplight from where I live. There was a guy with a big flatbed trailer that needed to make a left turn right there. Fortunately, there was enough room, but it still seemed a bit close.

And then there was the person leaving the pizza place a couple blocks later. I understand wanting to get home with your food while it's still hot. I really do. But paying attention to your driving is just as important. This person had not only missed the driveway to this place by a car width, but they also wound up blocking the lane I needed to be in and the sidewalk by the establishment in question. Fortunately, this was not as near a miss as was the flatbed, but frustrating all the same.

So, naturally, by the time I got to work, I was pretty much expecting things to be more than a little nuts. The worst part is that I was not let down, and it lasted the whole weekend.

Now, if you're wondering what this might have to do with the general theme of this blog, you're not alone. At this point, I'm still at a loss as to how to explain it properly as I haven't had a chance to do proper research yet. It's all based on my rather limited knowledge of the movies that incorporate Lovecraftian themes. I'll admit also that this is a rather poor way to start things off, but it's what I've got right now. I'm really hoping my bumbling about in all of this will give me a little impetus to improve myself a little bit somehow.

There is good news to end this with here, anyway. I'm also working on an article about a personal influence that I know has some heavy Lovecraftian themes and influences in it. That would be Digimon Tamers. But that's going to be a task in and of itself because there's so much to tell to have it make any sense. Hopefully, though, it won't take me too long.

See you soon, folks.
